- The Small Mosque - Hamam Street
The
small mosque is located at the east gate of Al-Hamam Street.
It was the first mosque to be built in the old city of Salt.
It was constructed between the years 1906 and 1907. Its elevations
were made of yellow stone which is a local stone attributed
to the Salt area, and its roofs were made out of wood. This
monumental piece of architecture was constructed through the
generous donations of the inhabitants of the city.
The
mosque consists of a prayer area and an open courtyard tiled
with stone, bricks, and stores. In the year 1884 the entity
was renovated at the expense of a generous donator. The renovation
of the stores were done very professionally both internally
and externally, thus giving a graceful feel for the entity
while maintaining the originality of its looks. The minaret
and the mosque's front prayer area were renovated so that
they replicate their original design. This replica was seen
as a means to bare witness to the architecture of old mosques
within the same area.
