Salt School for boys
The
Salt School for Boys has played a leading role in the political
and scientific advancement of Jordan. Since its establishment
date this learning institution had graduated allot of Jordan's
leading personalities and prominent figures including: prime
ministers, ministers and businessmen too.
The
school was established in 1918, but it was not until the year
1919 that it had actually started offering classes. Its classes
were first conducted in some of the city's homes, but as the
demand for these classes increased the school's administration
was forced to move its operations to an independent facility.
This independent facility was built through the generous donations
of the city's inhabitants, and until this day the school is
named Al-jadoor in reference to the Al-jadoor Hill where it
was originally built.
Due
to the fact that the Salt School for Boys was the only school
operating in the kingdom allot of its students and teachers
came from outside the city. Its students came from different
parts of the country and its teaching staff came from Syria,
Lebanon, and Egypt. To accommodate these people the school
premises encompassed a dormitory, which remained functioning
until the year 1929.
The
school's Library was established between the years 1926 and
1927, and in the year 1956 a second floor was added to it.
Its exterior walls were made out of yellow stone. The library
building was recognized for its simplicity. Its first floor
windows were horizontal, and its second floor windows were
rectangular with steal shutters. Its roof held a stone pillar,
which was perfectly situated to hold the Jordanian flag.
